Minimum Laptop Specs

These specifications should be used as guidelines for recommending laptops to trainees and a baseline for laptops that we purchase for students.
- Linux
- MacOS Mojave or newer
We cannot support Windows for development; it costs too much time and energy.
These laptops are the minimum that we expect students to use.
- 2.1 GHz Intel i3 or Intel i5 or better processor
- or AMD equivalent
- 120gb HDD (with at least 40gb free)
- 1600 x 900 or greater screen resolution
- 13” Screen size
- 4 GB of RAM
- Access to internet of 2Mbps up and down
These laptops are the recommended specs that we expect students to use to complete the Fundamentals and Software Development Courses
- 2.5 GHz Intel i5 or Intel i7 or better processor
- or AMD equivalent
- 120gb HDD or SSD (with at least 40gb free)
- 1980 x 1080 or greater screen resolution
- 15” Screen size
- 8 GB of RAM or more
- Access to internet of 6Mbps up and down
- A Webcam with 720p resolution or higher (can be included in laptop)
- A headset including a microphone (can either be USB or plug into the microphone and headphones socket(s))
- A Keyboard and Mouse (can be included in laptop)
- Two or more working USB ports
- An Integrated Graphics Card (a discrete graphics card is not required)
- An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE)
- Administrator access to the laptop
